ΠΙΝΔΟΣ ΠΟΛΙΤΙΣΤΙΚΟΣ ΣΥΛΛΟΓΟΣ ΓΡΕΒΕΝΩΝ
Pindos Cultural Society
The Pindos Cultural Society of Grevena was established in 1992 by a group of young people in order to maintain and conserve not only our local traditions but those of other regions as well, and ensure they are cherished by future generations.
The Pindos Society currently has about 200 members and 150 active dancers of all ages. Three of our dance groups are for children, while the fourth, advanced group has represented Grevena in performances in Greece and abroad.
Our group has been a constant presence since its inception, participating in cultural events and representing Greece through dances and songs from all over the country. We have performed in Germany, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Serbia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and more.
Our performances are often organized around central historical or regional themes that have generated a large number of commemorative songs or dances, including: historical migration to foreign lands, the Pindos Mountains, the fall of our cities to invaders, Psiloritis (Crete), and others. We have also reintroduced several forgotten sketches and pantomimes such as “skaros” (waking the herd), “ganotzis” (the copper pot polisher), and the traditional bridal farewell.
In addition, the Pindos Society has received some special honors and awards; one from the Township of Rhodes for a performance celebrating 2,400th anniversary of the city’s foundation, and another at the Global Festival of Ismaël in Egypt.
Our society has been featured on television channels 28 Grevena, Egnatia TV in Thessaloniki, and West Channel in Kozani.
Our dance association was founded 25 years ago. During these years a lot of traditional costumes from Macedonia and Thrace have been done for us.
At the moment,we have 40 costumes for kids and 60 costumes for adults. We also have our own audio playback system so as to be able to perform at open air theatres.
Our association has appeared on TV shows on the following greek channels:
Channel 28 Grevena,Egnatia tv Thessaloniki,West channel,Kozani.
Finally, we have honored and hosted a number of our country’s great musicians and folklorists, among them Panayiotis Molonas, Savvas Siatras and Kostas Verdis.
